After attempting to apply a subdomain to your BigCommerce store (either via a CNAME record or an A record), you may receive error messages after domain propagation that prevent the site from being visible.

Steps to Troubleshoot This BigCommerce Subdomain Issue

Step 1: First, make sure that the domain has actually propagated by checking the status on this domain status site: DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Checker Tool. If the search is not showing all green checkmarks (indicating that the propagation was successful for those geographic areas), wait until it shows all green.

NOTE: Propagation can take 24-72 hrs to take effect. Be patient.

Net global propagation checker.

Step 2: After propagation is complete, try to access the new subdomain. You may see this Error 1000 message (or a similar Error 1016 message):

Claudflare with the message Claudflare error 1000 DNS points to prohibited IP.

Step 3: Per these support articles (BigCommerce Stores 1016 Error, BigCommerce Help Center), reach out to BigCommerce support and describe the issue to them as in the example below. Ultimately, they will have to reset the SSL certificate in order to fix this problem.
