Using Promotions on SuiteCommerce Quotes (NetSuite Estimates)

Companies with SuiteCommerce websites often want to allow their customers to use promo codes (SuitePromotions). This is fairly straightforward with the usual shopping cart checkout process, but what if the website utilizes Quotes (called estimates in NetSuite)?

The good news is you can use promotions with quotes; the bad news is they don’t work quite the same way.

How Do Promotions Usually Work On SuiteCommerce?

In the usual shopping cart purchase flow on a SuiteCommerce website, there is a field in the checkout for a promo code. This field is used to enter the code (assuming the promo isn’t automatically applied). Then, the shopping cart shows the promo being applied.

How Promotions Work on SuiteCommerce Quotes

For quotes, the process is different. Natively, there is NOT any field on the quote submission page to add a promo code. However, promotions that are eligible to be automatically applied DO affect the quoted price but have the following differences:

• You cannot see the promotion information on the quote submission page.

• You cannot see promotion information on the quote review pages, although the price will be adjusted.

• You CAN see promotion information if you download the quote as a PDF. (Note: Remember that SuiteCommerce Quotes are also called "estimates" within NetSuite.)

• Once the quote progresses to the “review your order” page, you CAN see promotion information on the website.

• There is no way to change or remove the promotion through the website. 

Summary: Auto-Applied Promotions Can Be Used, but Might Not Be Sufficient

If a company wants to be able to use promotions within the quote purchasing flow on their SuiteCommerce website, it is possible. However, without further customization, there are limitations around how the promotions are viewed and applied.
