Customer-Specific Product Visibility for SuiteCommerce

One storefront. Different customers. Only the products they’re supposed to see. By Anchor Group SuiteCommerce Developers.

Customer-Specific Product Visibility is a Personalized Catalog Views extension that lets you control which products different SuiteCommerce shoppers can see—so wholesale buyers can get one catalog, retail customers another, VIPs can get exclusive products, and region- or qualification-specific items can stay out of sight for everyone else. And since “technically hidden unless somebody searches for it” isn’t the goal, this extension is designed so that when a product is hidden, it is kept out of internal site search, too.

Build Customer-Specific Catalogs in SuiteCommerce

Not every customer needs access to your entire catalog. And while SuiteCommerce natively offers a tool to control product visibility (Personalized Catalog Views), it is not very secure. “Invisible” products can still pop up in internal site searches. Not ideal. This SuiteCommerce extension locks down your catalog tighter than Alcatraz and maps customer groups to product groups so your storefront can control what products each shopper sees.

Your wholesale buyer may need access to products your retail shoppers never see. A certified purchaser may be allowed to buy from a category that isn't available to everybody. Your best customers might get early access to a new launch. And sometimes you've simply got a closeout deal you don't want plastered across the entire webstore.

One webstore. Different catalog experiences.

A Better Alternative When Personalized Catalog Views Aren’t Enough

SuiteCommerce already has native Personalized Catalog Views functionality. So why build another option?

The current product was created specifically for businesses that need more reliable product visibility—particularly where products intended to be hidden could still surface through internal site search in their existing setup.

This extension adds filtering designed to keep those hidden products out of onsite search results as well.

SuiteCommerce Search Optimization That Respects Product Visibility

Site search shouldn't become the secret back door into the rest of your catalog. And if a customer isn't supposed to see a product, typing the right phrase into the search box shouldn't suddenly introduce them.

This extension adds hidden filtering to internal SuiteCommerce search so the product-visibility rules continue applying when shoppers search the site and optimize onsite product search so the results match the catalog that particular shopper is supposed to have.

A Strong Fit for NetSuite B2B Ecommerce

In NetSuite B2B ecommerce, one storefront may serve:

  • Retail shoppers.
  • Wholesale buyers.
  • Distributors.
  • Strategic accounts.
  • Regional customers.
  • Customers with negotiated product access.

Each of those groups may need a slightly different catalog. For SuiteCommerce B2B, this means you can build customer-specific buying experiences without creating another storefront every time a customer segment has different product-access rules.

Keep Wholesale and Retail Catalogs Under One Roof

If your primary difference is which products each customer group should see, customer-specific product visibility gives you another option.

Retail shoppers can see the consumer catalog, while wholesale customers can see the products intended for trade accounts.

And because the experience is driven by the customer/product mapping, your team can keep both audiences within the same NetSuite ecommerce platform (which is a considerably smaller pile of duplicate website work).

Give VIP Customers Something Actually Exclusive

“VIP” feels considerably less exclusive when everybody can find the product through search. Which is why customer-specific product visibility gives you a way to expose certain products only to selected customer groups.

This can support:

  • VIP products
  • Early-access launches
  • Private product lines
  • Closeout offers
  • Customer-specific products

Support Regional and Qualification-Based Product Rules

Your business may have products that should only be presented to particular regions or buyers who meet certain qualifications. Businesses can limit certain items by region, requiring a certification before a shopper can purchase from a category, or give different visibility to junior versus senior buyers.

This extension gives you a technical framework for implementing those business-defined visibility rules.

Use Product Visibility as a Merchandising Tool

Restriction isn't the only use case. Selective visibility can also become a NetSuite ecommerce merchandising strategy.

  • Give your best customers first look at a product launch.
  • Create a private assortment for a strategic account.
  • Offer certain groups access to inventory you're trying to move.
  • Build different product experiences around customer relationships instead of treating every shopper exactly the same.

A SuiteCommerce Advanced Customization and SuiteCommerce Customization Built Around Access Rules

Customer-Specific Product Visibility is a focused SuiteCommerce Advanced customization and SuiteCommerce customization that uses native customer and product features to drive catalog filtering and works across both SuiteCommerce and SuiteCommerce Advanced webstores.

If your visibility model gets more complicated, Anchor Group's SuiteCommerce developers can extend the rules through additional SuiteCommerce development.

That might include:

  • More sophisticated customer-group criteria
  • Additional product groupings
  • Approval-based access
  • Qualification or regional logic
  • More complex customer-specific catalogs
  • Other SuiteCommerce customizations around product discovery and access

I did thorough research into different platforms, and we ended up going with SuiteCommerce, which was convenient since we were already on NetSuite. The customizability is great, though there are fewer developers out there. Luckily, we found you guys.

Don’t second guess, don’t doubt, and just hire them. I’ve worked with a few development companies and web firms, for some of them the price decides how much they’re going to build and how much they’re going to bring in. The great thing is Anchor Group NetSuite Consultants and Developers don’t give me that feeling. Instead, they make me feel like I’m in safe hands. I’m more excited working with them than anybody else.
