A native feature exists in SuiteCommerce to prevent duplicate customer accounts from being registered on your site. This feature helps prevent duplicate customer accounts, and prompts people to reset their password on their existing account instead of creating another account.

  • If you have a Custom Text Group, you should click Customize for this field.

  • Navigate to the Error Messages tab and find the following default text.

  • The {1} variable in the text is replaced by the email used in the registration.
  • Save the customized Text Group.

Exceptions for the Duplicate Detection Feature

The detection feature only applies to registration attempts made through your SuiteCommerce webstore, where the duplicate email appears in customer records. Attempts made through another page, or duplicates that appear in other records, would not be detected.

Thus, the native duplicate detection feature would not apply to the following cases:

  • Users checking out with PayPal Express Checkout.
  • Duplicate emails that appear in the user's contact records.
  • Duplicates that appear across different subsidiaries.
  • Registered users who do not have webstore access (such as guests who may want to sign up again).

Despite these exceptions, this is a great account management tool to implement in your new SuiteCommerce site! For further guidance or information, reach out to our SuiteCommerce developers today.
