In a SuiteCommerce implementation for one of our customers, we created a new domain record in SuiteCommerce that the former Shopify site existed upon. Here is why this record is important:

  • A domain record is essential for any SuiteCommerce website, as this record connects the SuiteCommerce application to NetSuite and the internet.
  • Enabling the CDN (Content Delivery Network) Cache allows the domain record to cache data and images on NetSuite’s Content Delivery Network. This feature improves page speed, the browser’s ability to read images, and overall webstore performance.

It is recommended to check the Enable CDN Cache for optimal webstore performance on the domain record.

What Does Caching Even Mean

Below are a few resources to explain how CDN Caching for the SuiteCommerce Domain Record operates. At a high level, CDN Caching is a native feature that decreases page load times and helps protect against aggressive bots or fraudulent activity. View the following articles for more information:

The following files are cached on a SuiteCommerce domain for a certain amount of time:

  • All image files from the File Cabinet.
  • Response output from the Item Search API that returns a list of items.
  • SuiteScript associated with SSP applications.
  • SSP Files.

Enable the CDN Cache

To enable the CDN Cache, complete the following steps.

Step 1: Navigate to the SuiteCommerce Domain Record (Commerce > Hosting > Domains).

Step 2: Select Edit.

Step 3: Scroll to the Advanced section and check the Use CDN Cache checkbox.

Step 4: Save the edited record.

When to Enable the CDN Cache

You should wait to enable the CDN Cache until the new SuiteCommerce site (production or sandbox) is stable for 24 hours after you create the domain record. A stable site means that the site has been up and running without major interruptions over the last 24 hours.

Most production SuiteCommerce domains should use the CDN Cache to improve SuiteCommerce performance.

If you are worried about fraudulent behavior (bots, internet threats, etc.) impacting your site, you can double-check this checkbox to verify that the NetSuite tools are working in your favor. Keep in mind that this does not protect against all cyber threats or malicious actors, however.

When NOT to Enable the CDN Cache

The times when you should not enable the CDN Cache on a webstore are less frequent, but they do occur. For instance, do not enable this feature when you initially set up the domain record. It is advised to wait 24 hours until the domain record is stable.

To avoid enabling the CDN Cache on a domain record, simply leave the Use CDN Cache unchecked on the domain record.
