Featured Products Bundle Configuration in SuiteCommerce

One of our SuiteCommerce customers was interested in highlighting specific products in their store. They wanted to spotlight an individual item and display specific item descriptions on their homepage. Thankfully, there is a native SuiteCommerce bundle that can do all of this and more! This article highlights the configuration process for that SuiteCommerce bundle.

Install the Featured Products Extension

The first step to adding this extension to the SuiteCommerce store is to install it. Read this linked Anchor Group blog post for the exact instructions to install and activate the extension. Here are a few steps to get started:

Step 1: Search for the SC Featured Product bundle.

Step 2: Next, follow this Anchor Group blog post for specific instructions to activate the Featured Products extension.

Be sure to check the checkbox next to the Featured Product in the Extensions tab!

After you complete the 8-step activation process, the Featured Product extension should be installed and activated.

Add and Configure the SMT Block

Next, this bundle must be added to the store through the Site Management Tools (SMT).

Step 1: As an Admin or Store Manager, hit escape on the page where you want the Featured Product to be added.

Step 2: Add your NetSuite Credentials, and go to the Pencil Icon to add the block to the site.

Step 3: Find the Featured Product block, then drag and drop it onto the container for This Page Only. On the right, there is the menu to configure this extension. This linked NetSuite documentation provides descriptions of each field on the configuration page.

One cool opportunity is that you can upload additional images (separate from the item images attached in the file cabinet) for your products. This could be helpful for highlighting a specific sale for that item!

Step 4: When finished configuring the extension, hit Save on the SMT block.

Step 5: Next, go to the Checkmark and X tab on the header of the SMT Tools to publish your new SMT block. 

Step 6: Return to the page on the webstore, and you should see your new Featured Product SMT block! 

Removing the Featured Products Extension from the store

If you ever want to remove the already published Featured Products element from the webstore, you may follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to the SMT Tools on the page where the Featured Product bundle lives.

Step 2: Hit Edit by selecting the Pencil Icon.

Step 3: When viewing the container where the Featured Product lives, select the X to remove the Featured Product block from the store.

Step 4: Exit SMT and verify that this block has been deleted.

Customization Opportunity - Custom Field Sets

One way to optimize your site’s performance when using Featured Product is to create a custom field set specifically for the Featured Product.

This allows SuiteCommerce to pull only relevant information to the block, rather than pulling all field set information for the item in the Featured Product. This should improve webpage speed.

NetSuite’s documentation is quite solid around these instructions. Follow these instructions to create a custom field set in the website setup record.

In the Configuration Record, located in the Commerce > Websites > Configuration Extensions and Featured Product tabs, you can add the ID of the fieldset you just made for the Featured Category. In the screenshot above, this would be “featproduct”.
