Force Reset ALL SuiteCommerce Web Users' Passwords

in , , June 21st, 2025

There may be a need to force all current SuiteCommerce website users to update/reset their passwords (or at least, a large group of them). Going through each customer and/or contact record one by one is very tedious. Thankfully, there is a way to do this in bulk.

How to Reset SuiteCommerce Users In Bulk

To mass update web user passwords, you follow the same process for granting user access in bulk (via CSV import), but instead of marking the “access” checkbox to be ‘TRUE’, you will be marking it to be ‘FALSE’.

The short version of the steps is as follows:

  1. Generate the list of customer or contact records (Pro Tip: include both name AND internal ID).
  2. Save the list as a CSV file.
  3. Add 2 columns: one named ‘giveaccess’, the other named ‘sendemail’.
  4. For all records needing to reset the password, fill the ‘giveaccess’ column with ‘FALSE’.
  5. Go to: Setup > Import/Export > Import CSV Records.
  6. Follow the import wizard to update either the customer or contact records with the file from the previous step.
  7. Repeat steps 1-6 BUT set the ‘giveaccess’ AND ‘sendemail’ columns to ‘TRUE’

What is Happening / Behind the Scenes

As soon as the record is updated to have the “access” checkbox unchecked and the record saved, NetSuite / SuiteCommerce forgets that user’s (aka: email address) password. Therefore, upon re-checking the “access” checkbox, the user needs a password specified, so sending the notification email via the “notify” checkbox will prompt the user to set their new password. Note: If you manually specified the password, you do not need to send the notification email unless you want them to set their password.

WARNING: If the website is using the Customer Swap (aka Switch Login, or Single Login Customer Swapping) extension, ALL contact user access will need to be removed. In other words - disassociate all contacts from a customer record in addition to removing the access.

Summary

Needing to reset a large number of user passwords on a SuiteCommerce website is likely rare. Luckily, it IS possible to do this with a few CSV imports that should run fairly quickly.
