Minimum and Maximum Quantity Enforcement for NetSuite Items

in , , June 10th, 2025

You can configure NetSuite item records to enforce quantity limits of either a minimum or maximum quantity (or both) on web store orders. Web store customers can only submit orders if the quantities of the items in their shopping cart fall within the maximum and minimum limits defined on the respective item records.

You can set the Enforce Minimum Internally checkbox to apply the minimum quantity limit to sales orders placed in NetSuite. Otherwise, the minimum and maximum quantity settings only apply to the web store.

Set Minimum and Maximum Quantity Values on the Item Record

Step 1: Edit the applicable item record in NetSuite.

Step 2: Navigate to the Sales / Pricing tab under the Sales section

Location of Maximum and Minimum Quantity fields

  • If you do not see both fields, check the item form being used, as these fields may be hidden in custom forms.

Step 3: Update the Minimum Quantity or Maximum Quantity fields to the desired values and 'Save' the item record.

If the minimum quantity is not satisfied in the quantity selector, Add to cart is prevented. The quantity of items in the cart is not referenced for minimum quantity validation.

  • You can edit the warning message at Commerce > Content Management > Customize Text.

  • If the maximum quantity will be exceeded by adding the specified quantity to the cart, the Add to Cart is prevented. The quantity of items in the cart is referenced for maximum quantity validation.

A Limitation of The Item Quantity Enforcement Solution

If you utilize both the Minimum Quantity and Maximum Quantity fields on an item, there is one limitation of these features that could occur on the PDP if an item is already present in the cart.

If adding the minimum quantity to the cart would exceed the maximum quantity allowed for the item, adding to the cart will be prevented. This will prevent customers from adding items from the PDP.

An Example

I have a minimum quantity of 7 and a maximum quantity of 15 on the above test item. If I already have a quantity of 12 in the cart, I should only be able to add 3 more to satisfy the maximum quantity value. However, it is required that I add a minimum quantity of 7 when adding the item to the cart. My add to cart action will then be rejected due to the maximum quantity being exceeded.

The solution: Update the quantity within the cart, as the quantity can be adjusted to any value between and including, the maximum and minimum quantity values.

Quantity Messaging in the SuiteCommerce Cart

Minimum Quantity and Maximum Quantity for the item will appear on the item in the cart. The quantity cannot be adjusted below the minimum or above the maximum quantity.
