  • Name - required field used internally & for reporting.
  • Start & end dates – option fields, used if specifying a time frame for promotion to run.
  • Combination with other promotions – The required field specifies if the promotion can be used with other promotions you have based on the radio button selected.
  • This promotion can be automatically applied – checkbox to allow auto application of promotion.
  • What the customer needs to buy – radio buttons specifying if the customer can buy anything or a specific amount and/or items.

Note: If choosing ‘spend minimum order amount or buy specific items’ additional options appear for order amount & items which then open up options to specify.

  • Shipping method – required field, selects the shipping method that is free.
  1. In the sub-tabs, select the additional options as desired. The below list focuses on what are typical options for Free Shipping.

Coupon Code Subtab

  1. coupon code type – specifies if the promotion can be used more than once or one time only.
  2. This applies to the promotion as a whole – i.e., can the promotion be activated one time by one customer or have multiple uses?

Audience

Choose everyone or specific customers. If choosing specific customers, the following options appear to define the customers.

  • Customer category – limits the promotion to customers that fall within the specified customer category(ies).
  • Customers – limit the promotion to the specified customers only.

NOTE: this is where you would specify a single customer if you want free shipping for just that customer.

  • Customer group – limits the promotion to the specified customer group (note: this is a single select field, so you can only specify one customer group).

Sales Channels

Choose all locations & websites or specific location(s) or specific website(s).

  1. If choosing the specific location(s) or specific website(s), a field appears to specify which one(s).
  2. You can only specify either location or website, not location AND website.

  1. Usage Limit – required option to set
  2. Specify how each customer can use the promotion. Options are:
  3. One time only.
  4. Unlimited amount of times.

Note: this is different than the ‘coupon code type’ field under the Coupon Codes subtab. This field only applies to multi-use coupon code types.

  1. For example, if the ‘coupon code type’ is one time only, regardless of what is chosen here, the promotion will only be applied one time.

Final Bits of Wisdom

  • You can combine various settings to fit specific needs.
  • It’s always a good idea to test before allowing widespread use of the promotion.
  • You can create more than one promotion of the same type.
  • In other words, if you have a free shipping promotion set to a specific customer, you can still create free shipping promotions with a variety of other settings & restrictions.
